Guidelines on use of Spring Hinges:

  • Maximum doors size 3,0” x 7,0” x 1 3/4” (914mm x 2134mm x 44mm)
  • NFPA requires the use of 2 spring hinges on Fire Rated Doors.
  • Up to 70 lbs (32 kg) Door: 1 spring hinge with 2 ball bearing hinges. The spring hinge should be in the center location.
  • Up to 90 lbs (41 kg) Doors: 2 spring hinges with 1 ball bearing hinges. The 2 spring hinges should be in the Center and bottom locations.
  • Up to 120 lbs (55 kg) Doors: 3 spring hinges
